Montessori School Belmar, NJ
A Montessori education is about learning more than just the facts and test taking. Montessori is about respecting the individual’s natural inclination to investigate their environment. It is helping a child to find their place in the world community and figuring out how to contribute to it. It is about learning how to make choices, think critically and seek out knowledge. At Monmouth Montessori near Belmar, we are thrilled when we see students blossoming independently, choosing to do big work and expanding their world. It is privilege to accompany them on their journey.
Evidence abounds to attest to the value of a Montessori education. One example is the article in the Journal Science, The Early Years – Evaluating Montessori Education: A 2006 study of 112 students in a Montessori school and conventional public schools in Milwaukee found that the Montessori students performed significantly better on both cognitive and social measures. By the end of kindergarten, the Montessori children performed better on standardized tests of reading and math, engaged in more positive interaction on the playground, and showed more advanced social cognition and executive control. They also showed more concern for fairness and justice. At the end of elementary school, Montessori children wrote more creative essays with more complex sentence structures, selected more positive responses to social dilemmas, and reported feeling more of a sense of community at their school.
